Car & Away is a revolutionary new start-up which, at its heart, enables private car owners to rent their cars directly to others when they are not using them. Think Airbnb for cars. 

Our brand purpose is to become the smartest peer-to-peer car sharing community globally.

 

We believe the world needs a smarter way to own and use cars. Car ownership costs are high, yet these cars are only used for 4% of their lifetime. There are 31m in the UK and 1bn worldwide highlighting a chronic inefficiency of private car ownership and a huge opportunity around unlocking the idle capacity in these cars.  We aim to reduce the number of cars on the road by 20%.

 

The Car & Away community was born at UK airports where we offer car owners a new choice to park and earn by renting their cars out. Using these cars we are disrupting the traditional car rental business by giving renters the exact car they choose and no queues,  so they can drive away in just 5 minutes.

 

Car owners will be supported from their homes to become the forefront of a larger community that will ultimately revolutionise car ownership across the country.

The Role

 

Customers are at the forefront of what we do, as an innovative and disruptive business we aim to lead the way providing superior customer service with a slick and smooth operation. We have been operational for just over a year and we’re now well underway with conversations about what the next stage of our growth looks like.

 

This is not an ‘out of the box’ Business Development role: If you want a regular ‘sales’ career, this isn’t the role for you. Business development for us is partly about growing our customer base, but it’s also about constantly innovating and improving the way we work, it’s about finding new supply partners and helping us to grow our network so more and more people can buy our product. You won’t get many opportunities like this where you will work on both the supply and the demand side of a business.

 

This role is being created primarily to take on many aspects of the Business Development function, working with the COO and the wider team to deliver a broad range of initiatives.

 

You will be quick thinking with a think-outside-the-box attitude that allows you to both process information and react quickly to new challenges as they arise, remaining calm, collected and adapting suitable process to document and handle similar challenges as the business grows. 

 

You will work closely with the Chief Operational Officer to develop a customer service strategy that delivers WOW with a pro-active approach; ensuring customers recognise the innovative nature of our business against traditional industry models. 

 

Mounds of flexibility will be needed in this brand new role as we accelerate our growth rapidly. No two days will be the same as you assist the founding management team build the business.

 

Our purpose and your role is exciting and pioneering and will change the way people own and use cars forever. You need to be prepared for hard work and creative thinking to overcome challenges. We are the catalyst for a new marketplace, with customers (our community) in the centre of all we do. Your role will combine customer facing activity with both Demand and Supply partners, with back office planning and delivery to make sure we meet our targets and commitments

More specifically:

  • You will work with the whole team to implement and manage systems and procedures to ensure the Pilot of this unique business model is successful, providing documentation and reporting at every stage that will form future business strategy.
  • Some key areas that you will be involved with, and lead in some cases:
  • Planning and tracking new location launches.
  • Process mapping and edge case resolution for new location launches and existing activities.
  • Identifying, prioritising and developing Business Requirement Documentation for IT developments.
  • Mapping out current and future customer journeys, identifying opportunities to create WOW moments.
  • Monitoring and updating pricing on an ongoing basis.
  • Producing and commenting on performance statistics, highlighting trends and issues.
  • Supporting and developing strategic research papers to help support the direction we take as a company.
  • Your will be used to working at Board level within the company, and with potential investors as we continue to grow.
